Moisturizers

Moisturizing is one of the most important things you can do for your skin. Unlike toners, which merely hydrate your skin, Moisturizers hydrate and work to keep that hydration locked in. They help prevent your skin from becoming dried out and cracked, prematurely aging and will overall make your skin look and feel brighter and healthier. They are also extremely important because of the effects of cleansing your skin. Cleanser dries out your skin while cleaning it, so it is important you counter act this with a good Moisturizer.

The world of Moisturizers can be daunting if you don't know what you're looking for. Generally they will fall into one of three major categories, facial, body or feet. But regardless of which body part you are looking to care for some basic rules always apply. When looking for a moisturizer look for one that smells nice, feels soothing on your skin and doesn't feel too greasy. Try testing out a few samples, you'll know straight away if it isn't the right type for you. Trust yourself and how your skin feels, anything that makes your skin feel good is a good indicator if that your along the right lines to find the brand and type that your skin needs.

For Your Skin Type

  • If you have oily skin look for a Moisturizer that is non-acnegenic oil or oil free and non-comedo genic (meaning it doesn't contain ingredients that are known to cause break-puts.)
  • For those with acne try a product with exfoliation ingredients, but be careful, because if you're using a topical acne medication these can actually make your condition worse. If in doubt always check with a dermatologist before proceeding.
  • For sensitive skin stay away from anything that has fragrance added, and it always pays to test a tiny bit on your skin first. Most retailers are more than happy to provide you with samples.

You will definitely need to get a separate Moisturizers for your body and your face. Body Moisturizers tend to have more fragrances added to them that could react badly with your more sensitive facial skin. Plus, you generally don't need something quite as heavy for face, as you do your body skin. These days more and more facial creams have SPF added to them, which gives you one less thing to worry about in your morning routine, and ensures you won't forget to put on the very important sun cream  

Remember that Moisturizing should make your skin feel good, if it is greasy, too heavy or causing irritation you're using the wrong one. Try a few and see how you go. You'll be surprised at how a nice Moisturizers can improve your day by making your skin feel that much healthier. And if all else fails its always nice to have on hand to use for a soothing back-rub.
